Hello everyone, it's that time of year again. The annual Spring Fling Contest hosted by Kaitlyn Sanchez and Ciara O'neal. I try to enter yearly, and I was not sure about this year, but an idea popped into my mind. Thank you to all the judges and prize donors. Good luck everyone!
Here is my entry. GIF pasted below.
Suki’s Spring Hat
By Thelia Hutchinson
WC 150
Every Spring, Suki would buy a new hat. She was excited. She shook her piggy bank.
Nothing.
“What happened to my money?” she gasped. She ran to her mother in disbelief.
“Remember you spent your money on the gift for Grandma’’ her mother reminded.
What was she going to do? The annual Springville Hat festival was coming up and she couldn’t afford to buy a new one. She knew she couldn’t wear the same hat twice and started to cry. As she pondered what to do, Suki pulled out her old hats.
It was then she realized she could make a new hat with the materials from some of her other hats. With a little help from Grandma and her gift, she traced, measured, cut, and sewed.
Finally!
“It may not be perfect, but it was perfect for her,” she beamed as she was praised for the “most original hat!”
What a sweet story and just perfectly 'Spring' themed! Great job!
Love the intergenerational interaction! I learned to sew from my mom. The story offers a great recycling/innovation message also. I'm from a BIG family and learned to be creative in order to have something NEW; now, I still figure out ways to reimagine something I already have.
Sweet story❤️
